Polls Show Strong Support for Diplomacy with Iran

Americans support a return to diplomacy and see Trump’s approach as a failure. A full 59% of American voters support the United States re-entering the agreement, including 72% of Democrats and 63% of Independents. A full 63% of Americans opposed President Trump’s unilateral withdrawal from the deal.

Trump Failed, Diplomacy Worked

The seven-nation JCPOA negotiated under President Obama and Vice President Biden blocked Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon and avoided yet another potentially catastrophic war in the Middle East. Under President Trump’s ‘maximum pressure’ campaign, Iran increased its stockpiles and production, has further developed its facilities and ramped up attacks on American troops and US allies.

“What happened in 2018 was a tragedy,” said former Mossad Director Tamir Pardo. Former Prime Minister Ehud Barak described it as “delusional decision” that allowed the Iranians to move forward. “What postponed Iranian progress towards achieving nuclear weapons was the nuclear agreement — and not military action,” said Amos Yadlin, former chief of IDF Military Intelligence. “The main mistake was the withdrawal from the agreement,” said former Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon.
